| NEW PRODUCTS THIS YEAR |
Five UK launches will take place at the Show:
The Necky Rip 12
If you’re looking to get into kayaking don’t miss the new Necky Rip 12. With its roomy
cockpit this is an ideal, user friendly craft for beginner and intermediate paddlers. It is
easy to get in and out of a Rip and new paddlers can feel comfortable and confident as
they develop their skills on the water. This new model is the big brother to the original
Necky Rip and with a length of 12 feet (3.66m), it is 18” (46 cm) longer than its
predecessor and slightly narrower. |

With the Necky pedigree behind it, the new Rip 12 is a recreational kayak
which delivers performance at an affordable price |
The increased waterline and trimmed beam allow you to move faster across the water
with a sharp keel giving even more glide. Unlike other recreational kayaks, the Necky
Rip 12 also boasts superior build quality which includes stern and bow bulkheads so the
hull is very strong but is still lively and responsive. |
The Vector 14
The Vector 14 is a sit-on-top which paddles like a sit-inside touring craft. Perfect for day touring and overnight stays, it offers performance, versatility and stability. With its long waterline length,
fine entry at the bow and shallow stern to eliminate drag, the Vector 14 glides effortlessly through the water. The low centre of gravity of the hull means it is very stable when carrying touring equipment and
there is plenty of storage for gear. The unique touring backband is like a sit-in kayak style back rest which gives all day
paddling comfort. |
The Vector 14 sit-on-top paddles like a
sit-inside kayak and has a unique seat
for added comfort (above) |
The Tetra Series
Ocean Kayak are introducing the new Tetra series (right) which are sleek and sporty and quite unlike any other Ocean Kayak sit-on-tops on the market. Perfect for day trips, kayak angling or just as great all-round boats to enjoy on the water they are available in 10’8” (3.25m) or 12’1” (3.68m)
lengths.
Each model comes with the Comfort Hybrid seat back which is easily adjustable to suit all shapes and sizes. The extended seat back height gives additional lumbar support and the whole seat is
attached to the kayak so it won’t move under you. The seat folds back for storage and can also be
easily removed if necessary. For stowing kit there is a Quick Seal bow hatch which has a large cover sealed with a neoprene gasket. A rudder can be fitted as an optional extra and the Angler edition of the Tetra includes two flush mounted rod holders, angler graphics and the Rod Pod II centre
console hatch. This angling hatch can be used for mounting rods, tackle trays and other
fishing equipment. |

The Ultra 4.3
The latest model in the dedicated kayak fishing section is the new Ultra 4.3 (below). A
top America’s Cup engineer, designers from Ocean Kayak and professional kayak
anglers have all been involved in its design. The Ultra series sets the standard in fishing
kayaks for others to follow and Richard Karn from Team New Zealand was the expert
brought in to optimize the speed and performance of this new hull. With his design input
the Ultra 4.3 is much faster than you would expect from a boat this length.
When paddling it feels like you are in a fishing kayak with a much longer waterline,
although in reality this is a wonderfully compact and sleek design package. The Ultra 4.3 is a shorter and lighter version or the Ultra 4.7 which was introduced last year. This makes it easier to handle off the water but for fishing it also has new and modified
features on board. A bespoke version of the seat which has received much acclaim in the
Necky Vector range of kayaks ensures a really comfortable ride too. |

The Trident Ultra 4.3 is a fast hull packed with features. Optional
accessories include the Ice Box Storage Pod (right) |
The Saranac 160 series
When the first Saranac canoes were introduced at the show last year they became an
instant hit by offering so many built-in features and such outstanding value for money.
Now there are exciting new additions to this popular range from Old Town. The new
Saranac 160 designs (below) are longer and slightly wider than previous Saranac models
offering even more space on board. |
 |
Old Town had started afresh with the Saranac range by taking a traditional design and
incorporating all the benefits that modern manufacturing techniques offer. This produced
a hull shape which is not only great to paddle but has foam buoyancy integral in the seats
and lots of moulded in extras. As well as two contoured seats, there’s a centre bench seat
which is perfect for smaller passengers and has an insulated box inside for storage and a
6” screw in hatch in the centre console for keys etc.
There are moulded in storage trays, moulded in handles and a fishing rod holder in the
centre. Further moulded in flush mounts for either fishing rods or an anchor system are at
the bow and stern. The new 160 series is available in standard, XT or Angler editions; the
Angler edition has anchor and rod mounting features for fishing. |

The Saranac 160XT has all the standard moulded in features
plus padded seats with adjustable seat backs |

Fun boats at great prices
In addition to the new products there will of course be many other craft to choose from
whether you want some fun at the beach, to go kayak camping or undertake more
adventurous touring. One of the versatile craft on display will be the Ocean Kayak standup
paddleboard (SUP), the Nalu (below). It can be paddled when seated or standing and
in SUP mode offers good exercise by giving you a full body workout. It is very stable so
is ideal for the entry level paddler and there is even a special dual purpose paddle from
Carlisle called the Taboo which can be adjusted to suit the user’s height and used when
standing or seated. |

The Nalu stand-up paddleboard (SUP) from
Ocean Kayak is one of the many versatile leisure craft
on display. Available in 11’ and 12.5’. |
