SOUTHAMPTON BOAT SHOW- STAND H009
September, 2011 |
| The new Vector 14 from Necky is a sit-on-top with a performance hull which is ideal for touring and distance paddling. It is an extended version of the Vector 13 which Necky introduced last year when they took sit-on-top design to a whole new level. The earlier model was the first of a new generation of craft from Necky who, with the Vector range, have produced open kayaks which paddle with the ease of a sit-inside touring craft. |

The Necky Vector 14
Length 14’ 1” (4.3m)
Width 25” (73.7cm)
Weight 63lbs (28.6kg)
Max Capacity 250 - 300 lbs (113.4 – 136.1 kg)

Traditionally most sit-on-tops are designed to be extremely stable, but a wider hull which offers high initial stability can restrict how the craft will handle on the water. Necky designers have overcome this by producing a hull shape which is stable but still allows paddlers to lean turn or sit the kayak up on edge with ease. With its long waterline length, fine entry at the bow and shallow stern to eliminate drag, the Vector 14 glides effortlessly through the water.
Perfect for day touring and overnight stays, the low centre of gravity of the Vector 14 makes it well suited for carrying equipment. There is plenty of storage for gear with two Quick Seal hatches and a large cargo well in the stern complete with an innovative nylon tank well cover which offers secure storage and easy access to kit. There’s also a bottle holder and convenient mesh storage pouch in the centre of the craft.
Because the Vector 14 is a sit-on-top, specialist kayaking techniques are not required with this tourer making it very user friendly whatever your level of paddling expertise. The design allows great freedom of movement and there is no enclosed cockpit so you cannot get trapped inside if the kayak rolls. Paddlers can be assured of being comfortable too. The unique touring backband is like a sit-inside kayak style back rest and there is a seat pad and adjustable foot braces. An optional rudder system is available. The Vector 14 is self draining and four medium scupper stoppers are included. Built of rotomoulded polyethylene this is a very durable touring craft and the standard model is £849. |
